Mikel Arteta has outlined his strategy for bringing Arsenal to the “next level” during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are preparing a budget of £200 million to compete in the Champions League after a six-year absence and to once again challenge Manchester City for the Premier League crown.
Declan Rice is reportedly their top target, with Moises Caicedo of Brighton also drawing interest. Granit Xhaka is reportedly on the verge of leaving the team to make room for Arteta’s midfield makeover.
The upcoming window will be “crucial” for the club’s aspirations, Arteta told reporters prior to playing Nottingham Forest.
This summer will be very important for us if we want to advance. Sure enough, that.
“First and foremost, we must ensure that everything at the club remains as it is.
“That we maintain expectations, that we maintain the enthusiasm and energy that is present here, and that we have an adequate preparation to meet the goals and challenges that we will have next season.”
Joao Cancelo, a full-back who is unpopular with both Manchester City and his loan club Bayern Munich, is another candidate.
The Portuguese player, who would not be cheap, is rumoured to have interest from Arsenal.
