Unusual circumstances led to the resignation of Ruud van Nistelrooy, a genuine legend of Manchester United, as manager of PSV Eindhoven.
Despite winning the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield with the Dutch team, van Nistelrooy has announced his resignation with one Eredivisie game still to play and will not finish the season at PSV.
With a victory over AZ Alkmaar, who have recently made headlines for their own reasons, the team might still finish second in the Dutch league, but the former striker will no longer be in charge of that, which would be a reward in and of itself in the wake of a powerful and unstoppable Ajax team.
The following was stated in the PSV statement: “PSV regrets van Nistelrooy’s decision and is grateful to him for winning the Johan Cruyff Shield and the TOTO KNVB Cup this season. PSV hopes to close the football year with second place.”
Van Nistelrooy’s abrupt departure, according to several reports, was brought on by conflict behind the scenes.
Noni Madueke joined Chelsea, while Cody Gakpo moved to Liverpool, both Premier League teams that lost two talents to PSV.
In addition, Bold claim that van Nistelrooy made the decision to leave abruptly after realizing there was little backing for his strategies. This occurred after a series of meetings with the board addressing “internal matters.”
After a protracted career as a club backroom and youth coach, Van Nistelrooy leaves PSV having won 65% of his matches in charge.
He has left PSV before; in 2001, he did so in order to establish himself at Manchester United, where he would later become legendary.
