According to Jamie Carragher, he would be “delighted” if Liverpool signed Alexis MacAllister and Mason Mount this summer. While the Brighton star has drawn attention with his great performances, the Chelsea midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge is becoming more and more questionable since his contract is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season.
Football.london understands that Mount and the Blues have been in negotiations for a new contract, but the projected length of the agreement and compensation package have proven to be difficult to agree upon. The England international will become a free agent in June 2024 if he does not sign a contract extension, at which point he will be offered for sale.
According to rumours, Mount has long been admired by Liverpool, and Carragher wants his former team to close a move. Football.london is aware that Mac Allister is a real option for the West Londoners, but it’s also rumoured that the Reds are interested.
Mount and Mac Allister are both well admired by Carragher, who told the Anfield Wrap why they ought to be made welcome at Anfield. Mason Mount is a funny one in that people usually seem to be a little bit down on him for whatever reason, the 45-year-old remarked.
“I love it, but I’ve never understood it. He has won the Champions League. I like him a lot. He would offer a higher goal threat from midfield than Jordan does at the moment. He has the drive to press.
“Every good manager Chelsea has had has chosen him. Plays for England, thus I believe the club must be considering the situation of the homegrown player. He makes me feel depressed for whatever reason.
“Fans’ Footballer of the Year”
Carragher continued, “I’d be thrilled if we brought Mac Allister and Mason Mount in. Considering that Mount and Mac Allister are more offensive midfielders, I think it’s important for us to add a defensive midfielder as well.
“Our issue is defensiveness, not moving ahead, in my opinion. The main issue this season has been our defence, so we need to fix that if we want to get back to where we want to be, which is fighting Man City and contending for major trophies.
While Mount has a 12-month contract with Chelsea, Todd Boehly might be forced to sell him if he decides against extending it. The following Blues manager won’t want a player who might be dissatisfied in the lineup.
