After a standout campaign for the Under-18s, Ranel Young has committed to Liverpool on his first professional deal.
The 17-year-old joined the Reds from Huddersfield Town as an Under-12s player, and as he advances through the club’s Academy, he was promoted to the Under-18s last summer.
The winger, who can play on either flank, had an impressive breakout season, making 17 appearances in the Premier League U18, scoring four goals and dishing out an assist. He also played twice in the FA Youth Cup and five times for Liverpool Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League, where they lost to Sporting Lisbon in the quarterfinals.
Young’s goals included a stunning last-second individual effort against Manchester United, an outstanding winner against Blackburn Rovers, and a brace in last month’s triumph over Newcastle United.
Young, a forward with genuine pace who will join the ranks of Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s U18s along with players like Trent Kone-Doherty, Louie Koumas, and Keyrol Figueroa, will now continue his development at the Academy.
