In light of Gakpo ‘s recent success in the central offensive position for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has suggested that the Dutchman might take Roberto Firmino’s place in the team.
The 23-year-old forward, who joined Liverpool in January from PSV in what has so far turned out to be another cheap purchase for the Reds, was praised by the Egyptian winger, Speaking to Stadium Astro, after an amazing debut season in the Premier League.
As the main attacking force for Liverpool in recent weeks, the youngster has taken Firmino’s place. With the Brazilian playing his final game for the Anfield giants today, Gakpo makes a lot of sense as a replacement for the Merseyside cult hero, and Salah appears to agree.
On Gakpo, the Liverpool star stated, “He’s kind of like Bobby. He enjoys diving deep and occasionally plays as the No. 8. He is a skilled football player, no doubt about it. If the team is winning, he will score goals regardless, so I’m not worried if he doesn’t.
“I talk to him all the time. He’s an extremely smart individual that always seeks knowledge. I always encourage him, “Play your football, don’t listen to anyone else’s criticism.” I told him, “Don’t worry what people think if maybe you’re not scoring a lot [at times]. Play football, unwind, and take pleasure in your position on the team.
Next season, Salah’s forecast for Gakpo may come to pass.
Since taking over as Liverpool’s centre attacker in recent weeks, Gakpo has made some amazing strides. And now that Salah has compared the Dutchman to Firmino, there is a good probability that the forward will be in charge of Jurgen Klopp’s team next year.
Since joining Liverpool in January, Gakpo has made amazing progress in adjusting to the Premier League, and while the Reds have a number of possibilities to fill Firmino’s spot in the lineup, the 23-year-old may be the most suitable player going forward based on his style of play.
