Liverpool has already gained an advantage over its rivals by acquiring Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, but now some of the other Premier League clubs are beginning to make their own moves.
Declan Rice was the subject of a rejected $114 million (£90 million/€105 million) offer from Arsenal, according to ESPN. The same story also claims that Manchester City is now interested in the midfielder.
Mason Mount, a star for Chelsea and England, has drawn praise from Liverpool. Earlier this week, Manchester United had its $51 million (£40 million/€47 million) opening offer for the 24-year-old knocked down, according to the BBC.
With only 23 days before the start of pre-season, Liverpool will continue to strive to be wise and discover value, with the addition of more midfielders and perhaps a new defender on the list.
Here is the Liverpool.com opinion on the transfer rumors that have been swirling about the Reds lately, with a brand-new name emerging as a potential summer target and an old target resurfacing courtesy to Newcastle United’s interest.
The PSG’s Warren Zaïre-Emery
According to RMC Sport, PSG wonderkid Warren Zaïre-Emery is a target for both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund this summer, and Manchester City has requested that the 17-year-old be included in a deal that would send Bernardo Silva back to Ligue 1.
There are reportedly only two years left on Zaïre-Emery’s contract, and Pep Guardiola is claimed to ‘love’ the player. The midfielder is reportedly also worried about competition for positions and where he receives his playing time.
According to the source, Liverpool is “very interested” in buying him, while Dortmund sees him as a potential successor for Jude Bellingham, who is expected to join Real Madrid and wear the number five jersey.
Liverpool.com says: This would be a very exciting move, but a switch to Dortmund would appear the most sensible for Zaïre-Emery to get the game time that he wants. Liverpool would be right to take an interest, but convincing the teenager that there would be more action for him at Anfield than in Paris might prove difficult.
Nicolo Barella
The Telegraph reported last night that Newcastle was close to signing Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella for $63 million (£50 million/€58 million), and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and his assistant, Pep Lijnders, are fans of the 26-year-old.
But that seems incredibly overly optimistic. Although Newcastle respects Barella, it would be a complete steal to acquire him for that sum, and the truth is that it will likely require much more. According to 90Min, Liverpool was originally informed that it would cost $95 million (£75 million/€88 million) for Inter to sell, which would seem more reasonable.
Liverpool.com says: Barella would be the dream signing for Liverpool in the right-sided number eight role. His style would suit the Reds perfectly and he could make a real difference in the final third. Even if he moves for more than $63m (which would seem the only way) then Liverpool should be exploring a hijack.
