Man Utd agree £60m deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea
The West Londoners rejected United’s three offers, the most recent of which was for £55 million. Chelsea’s demand of £65 million, which United were unwilling to pay, appeared to put an end to the sale.
But over the past 24 hours, the two teams resumed talks in the hopes of coming to an agreement. Chelsea, who spent about £600 million on players during the previous transfer windows, are eager to balance their books in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play Regulations.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Man Utd has agreed to pay Chelsea £55 million plus an additional £5 million in add-ons, for a potential transaction of up to £60 million. This indicates that a compromise deal has now been reached.
Prior to moving to Old Trafford, Mount has been given clearance to complete his medical exam and sign his personal contract with United.
The England midfielder has made it obvious that he won’t renew his contract, therefore Chelsea chose to make a profit rather than take the chance of losing him for free in a year.
Talks are ongoing.
Next their qualification for the Champions League for the next season, Man Utd is eager to sign top players. Erik ten Hag wants to build on a strong debut season, thus United needs a bigger squad to compete in all areas next year.
The Red Devils defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final last season under the guidance of the Dutch manager at Wembley Stadium. Additionally, he was able to place third in the league and get to the FA Cup final.
Although various midfielders have been linked to Man United, Mount remains their top objective, and they are very close to landing their man.
All parties wanted to finalize the transaction before Monday, when Mount was scheduled to rejoin Mauricio Pochettino’s team for preseason practice.
Mount will be a great addition to Manchester United since his high-pressing style of play will fit with Ten Hag’s.
