Borussia Dortmund made a ‘sneaky bid’ for Jadon Sancho, but Manchester United turned it down, according to sources. The two years the England international has spent at Old Trafford have not gone well. And since Erik ten Hag is willing to let the forward go this summer, a departure might now be authorized.
The Daily Star reports that Borussia Dortmund recently requested to have Sancho go back out on loan.
The former England international thrived for the German powerhouses, where he spent four years from 2017 to 2021.
United, who just two years ago spent Dortmund a staggering £73 million to get Sancho, has declined the offer.
United does not intend to permit the 23-year-old’s temporary departure.
The article claims that the Red Devils, though, are open to hearing from clubs who want to give their No. 25 a permanent contract.
United are accepting bids starting at £45 million, with Ten Hag growing impatient with Sancho’s inability to adopt his strategies.
The former Manchester City academy graduate trained in the Netherlands for four months last season while away from the team.
Sancho has made some progress, but he hasn’t yet lived up to his exorbitant price tag.
The United star, who has scored nine goals in 55 Premier League games, has also drawn interest from Tottenham.
However, since Spurs just spent a lot of money on James Maddison, they won’t be able to pay Sancho either.
The winger would be the newest attacking talent to toil at Old Trafford if United sold him.
When United bought the Argentina international in 2014, they believed he would be the key to Premier League success.
The veteran, though, only stayed for a year before moving on to Paris Saint-Germain.
Memphis Depay was never at his best for United; Jose Mourinho traded the Dutch international in January 2017 after he had just joined from Lyon a year earlier.
And the Chilean international Alexis Sanchez was yet another failure, scoring just five goals before departing for Inter Milan in 2019.
Speaking recently about Sancho, meanwhile, talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist expressed his disappointment with the 23-year-old and his performances.
It’s a move that hasn’t really worked out, has it? I just feel for the lad, he said.
“I don’t think anybody can doubt there’s a great talent there.”
And the Rangers icon then added: “You go back to that point last season where he was having troubles and Ten Hag sent him away to try and get himself squared up.
“I just feel from the the move clearly hasn’t worked out.
Also, why not? Why not return to his previous location, Dortmund?
“You know, he was loved, and he was playing well, without a doubt the best football of his career.”
Ten Hag would experience significant financial growth should Sancho decide to permanently depart United.
Mason Mount is about to join the team, but the Dutchman is aware that he needs more young players to contain Manchester City.
