Better Deal in the Making: Stevie Nicol Backs Man United’s Pursuit of Mason Mount Over Tottenham and Arsenal Transfers
In spite of the fact that James Maddison can ‘create’ with the ball while moving forward, the Liverpool great said that Maddison is a player who ‘disappears’ after moving to Tottenham.
While he questioned the decision of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to sign Kai Havertz, Sky Sports reported that Havertz’s Chelsea teammate Mason Mount may be moving to Manchester United.
These are significant decisions being made by sides that are at quite different points in the game.
Next season, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham will all be competing for the Premier League championship and a spot in the Champions League, respectively.
Given their desperate need for a player like Maddison, one could argue that Tottenham made the best move, but Nicol outlined why the soon-to-be Mount deal will turn out to be the best.
“If I am picking a team, then I am going to rely more on Mason Mount than the other two (Havertz and Maddison),” Nicol stated.
When you get the ball moving forward after that, I’m going to rely on Maddison. He is productive. Kai Havertz is the person I trust the least.
It’s true what some have said about Mount’s performance last season. But in addition to being hurt, he also required a break. He has, however, perhaps been Chelsea’s best forward over the past three to four years. As a coach, I am aware of what Mount will provide for me.
“For the other two, things start to become worse. As I previously stated, Maddison disappears when things get tough, and I’m not really sure what Kai Havertz will provide Arsenal. Does he intend to begin?
Mount and Maddison’s England prospects
It will be interesting to see if Mount and Maddison’s calls end up being crucial to England’s prospects of starting under Gareth Southgate.
No one doubts their call-ups, but they don’t serve as regular starters. Could this all change in the upcoming season?
They will have a better chance of starting for England when they attempt to win Euro 2024 in Germany next summer if they perform well for their individual teams.
