This summer, Chelsea and Manchester United will compete for the services of the Ecuadorian international, who is expected to leave the Seagulls.
Brighton estimates the 21-year-old to be worth roughly £80 million, yet they might be able to get a greater price if United and Chelsea go head-to-head.
Chelsea reportedly has personal agreements in place with Caicedo, but they’re not willing to pay Brighton’s £80 million asking price.
That might let United in, and according to CBS Sports, Brighton is interested in bringing in McTominay to fill the void.
Although McTominay’s sale may bring in about £30 million, Erik ten Hag would rather keep the player. With that money, he could spend in other parts of his team.
With a budget of roughly £120 million this summer, United will not be able to buy Caicedo for £80 million, but employing McTominay—either in a part-exchange deal or by selling him outright to Brighton—could significantly cut the cost of Caicedo.
Within the next 48 hours, Mason Mount is expected to sign a £55 million deal with the team, and after that, United will try to finalise a deal to sign Andre Onana.
Inter Milan, however, turned down the club’s original £34.4 million bid for the Cameroon international.
After Mount moves to Old Trafford, Ten Hag needs a goalkeeper, centre forward, and defence.
Dean Henderson, McTominay, Fred, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, and Eric Bailly might all be sold to make money.
