Mason Mount, a summer acquisition, is one of the players who will start against the recently relegated team in Erik ten Hag’s potent lineup.
Last week, Mount agreed to a lucrative transfer from Chelsea, and he has since trained with his new teammates at Carrington among other first-team regulars.
After dealing with the loss of both Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez for a substantial portion of last season’s final third, Ten Hag is finally able to field his first-choice center-back pairing.
But everyone will be watching Mount’s first game for the Reds. Before the game, Ten Hag explained why he chose to introduce Mount to the team and what the fans may anticipate from him.
Ten Hag told the official United website, “I’m sure he’ll help United succeed.
He is a top-notch athlete. He aspires to play offensively, but he also wants to be fully functional and multifaceted. He want both offence and defense. Our appraisal following the previous season is that he will inject vigor into our performance.
As manager gets his team ready for the commencement of their tour of the United States starting the following week, Ten Hag will want to leave the game with all of his players unharmed.
The majority of his first-team roster will have returned from vacation by that time, and possibly one or two new players will have been added. The custodian for Inter Milan, Andre Onana, is rumored to be close to a transfer.
