It’s all happening right now in Liverpool. When news broke this week that they would lose Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabian teams, they appeared to be moving along smoothly with their transfer business.
That would indicate without a doubt that the Reds need to strengthen their midfield for the upcoming campaign. They might now look to Caicedo to do that, per TalkSPORT.
If Henderson and Fabinho leave, they assert, the Reds will “consider” entering the chase for the Brighton player.
The current favorites to sign Caicedo are Chelsea, who are also allegedly in the running.
However, doing so will be rather expensive for them. According to TalkSPORT, Brighton values the Ecuadorian at an astounding £100 million.
Caicedo is back on Liverpool’s radar
There’s no doubt that Henderson and Fabinho would have to outbid themselves in the market if they both left Liverpool.
Romeo Lavia had appeared to be the Reds’ main target—and essentially their only one—up until this past week. The Belgian would still be a welcome addition, but he is insufficient to close such a large deficit.
He’s only 19 years old. Lavia might be taking on too much too soon since the club currently lacks a natural substitute for Fabinho.
Caicedo appears to be more than willing to do that in this instance. Many supporters believe he is the best option this summer because of his versatility, which includes being able to play both further up the pitch and as a defensive midfielder.
But you have to pay for that, regrettably. And it’s hard to imagine Liverpool becoming involved if the final price is anything near the £100 million claimed.
At this time, it’s difficult to see how that price may be reduced with Chelsea still very much in existence. With the sale of Alexis MacAllister to Liverpool, Brighton have suffered a considerable financial loss. It makes sense to assume that they’ll try to make up for the lost revenue by raising the price of Caicedo.
So, we shouldn’t extrapolate too much from this. But it’s obvious that Liverpool supports the Ecuadorian player. The Reds may be entering a period of “desperate times” at this point. They’ll have to take drastic efforts to counter that. Although £100 million is a lot, Caicedo might be a good investment for them.
