Despite their massive deal for Declan Rice, Arsenal reportedly still wants to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
After months of rumors, the Gunners finally sealed the agreement to acquire Rice from West Ham on Saturday in a £105 million deal.
Rice joins Jurrien Timber, who spent £38 million leaving Ajax for the Emirates Stadium, and Kai Havertz, who spent £65 million leaving Premier League rivals Chelsea.
There were rumors at the beginning of the window that technical director Edu and Mikel Arteta planned to bring in five players this summer: two midfielders, a right back, a centre back, and a forward.
After spending £208 million on Rice, Timber, and Havertz, they still have room to add two players before the transfer window closes. Spanish tabloid Fichajes predicts they will re-enter the race for Brighton’s Caicedo.
Although Caicedo pushed for a transfer, Brighton persuaded him to sign a new contract after the transfer window closed, despite Arsenal reportedly making a £70 million proposal for the Ecuadorian international in the January transfer window.
Caicedo has been linked to both Chelsea and Liverpool, with Football Insider asserting earlier this week that the Blues are “near to agreeing” on an £80 million deal for the 21-year-old.
Despite their significant outlay this summer, Fichajes claims that Arsenal “are considering making an approach” for Caicedo and that they “have made plain that they are willing to make a costly effort to ensure they assemble a truly ridiculous team.”
According to the article, Arsenal “seem keen to fortify their center of the field with the absorption of Caicedo,” but it “will not be an easy assignment” due to Chelsea’s desire.”
Earlier this week, Caicedo responded to a question about Chelsea’s interest by saying, “It’s a huge team, that’s true, a very historic team.
“I can’t say no since it’s a huge, illustrious, and stunning team. Additionally, the city is stunning.
Regarding how he responds to the rumors, Caicedo continued, “It’s a really strong emotion. Who among men wouldn’t want them to be discussing him?
“I’m prepared to handle it. I don’t let my feelings get the best of me. For the time being, I’m relishing my family. Despite the pressure, I remain composed.
I’m ready to accept whatever God decides. He will be aware of my best interests.
Caicedo had a lot of love for current club Brighton despite his desire to move, saying, “They opened the door for me in the Premier League. I’m delighted to be there, and I’ll cherish the memories I’ve made there forever.
In actuality, this year has been a dream come true for me. I have accomplished a lot thanks to God, and I’m grateful that I’m doing what I love doing at a very high level and that others think highly of me.
That is something that I had dreamed about and am now experiencing, therefore it is extremely pleasant.
