With Fabinho expected to leave Liverpool for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia for a reported £40 million, Liverpool appear set to lose another midfielder.
Jurgen Klopp, who has already lost three midfielders this summer, may have an issue with the transfer, but it also presents a chance. After a dismal 2022–23 season, the Reds manager moved to replace James Milner, Alex Oxlade–Chamberlain, and Naby Keita by bringing in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
As Fabinho’s exit seems probable, Liverpool will need to return to the transfer market to add more reinforcements. For the Brazilian midfielder, Liverpool has received a £40 million bid. Steven Gerrard, a former club favorite, is interested in captain Jordan Henderson at Al-Ettifaq.
Stan Collymore, a former Liverpool player, thinks that Klopp’s team should spend money on Moises Caicedo of Brighton to replace Fabinho and outbid Chelsea for his services.
Collymore said, via Caught Offside, “To replace Fabinho, I think Liverpool should break the bank for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and even though it might be a little early for him, Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara would be an excellent acquisition for Klopp having been exceptional at times last season – although I think Aston Villa won’t be motivated to sell him this summer.
Caicedo would be my choice if they were searching for a defensive midfielder who would be available for the next four to five years. His old Brighton teammate Mac Allister would make a great partner for him because they had great success together the previous season. Regardless, Liverpool needs to add another player to their midfield.
Caicedo has said he wants to leave Brighton for the summer. Despite being in the race to sign with Arsenal in January, the Gunners are no longer interested in acquiring his services after acquiring Declan Rice from West Ham for £105 million.
Caicedo is under contract until June 2027, and it is said that Brighton is holding out for close to £100 million for him. Chelsea is rumored to be contemplating a bid, while Liverpool may yet capture the Ecuadorian midfielder as their third addition of the summer.
