Despite declining a deal to Saudi Arabia, rumors claim that Liverpool player Thiago Alcantara is leaning towards leaving Anfield this summer.
Since letting Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita go on free transfers at the end of June, the Reds have lost a lot of midfielders in a mass exodus.
However, it appears that Jordan Henderson and Fabinho will soon go to Saudi Arabia. Jurgen Klopp did sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
Fabinho has been given permission to speak to Al Ittihad after the Premier League team accepted a £40 million deal, and Liverpool is apparently finishing the formalities of Henderson’s £12 million transfer to Al Ettifaq, who are managed by Reds great Steven Gerrard.
According to speculations, Thiago may also leave Anfield with them, with the Spanish team Barcelona and many Saudi Pro League clubs also showing an interest.
And now, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Thiago is “seriously” considering leaving Liverpool, with the Spaniard quietly acknowledging that leaving Anfield is the “best option” for his career.
The publication describes Thiago as being at a “crossroads” and says he is “searching for an option to resuscitate his career.” He has “also received proposals” from the Turkish Super Lig.
Thiago will have “very little possibilities to have minutes in the next campaign,” according to Sport, since injuries have been his biggest issue since joining Liverpool, despite Fabinho and Henderson presumably going.
Because of those issues, the report continues by saying that Liverpool ‘have not sat down with him to extend his contract’ – but there is a ‘glimpse of hope’ for Thiago with his ‘dream of returning’ to Barcelona ‘could finally materialize’.
Until Barcelona makes a firm offer, Thiago has “turned a deaf ear to the seduction melodies of Saudi Arabia” and will keep Turkish interest on “standby.”
If Liverpool loses Fabinho this summer, Steve McManaman believes they might realistically pursue Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City.
If Liverpool loses Fabinho, McManaman told Betfred, “Kalvin’s name would come into the conversation.” He plays in that position, is English, and is a member of the England national team, so I don’t think Manchester City would anticipate a club spending a fortune on him.
There may be a deal there to explore, and if Jürgen Klopp is forced to part ways with a defensive midfielder this summer, signing Kalvin is undoubtedly an option. However, it all hinges on whether Manchester City would be prepared to allow Kalvin to join a Premier League opponent.
It’s still up in the air, but a deal for Kalvin might happen as he matches the profile of what Liverpool would require if Fabinho leaves. Manchester City has brought in Mateo Kovai in place of llkay Gündoan, so they still have a similar nucleus of players from last season.
It all hinges on whether Pep Guardiola would allow him to join a rival and whether Kalvin would want to leave Manchester City after they had just won the triple. He likes to work hard and wants to make a point.
