The international from Ukraine and Nicolas Jackson made an excellent combination to score Chelsea’s second goal against the Seagulls.
So, what was Paul Merson’s response when Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk scored? Let’s look at this…
What’s the backstory?
The Ukrainian international received harsh criticism after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk in January for a reported £88.5 million.
In 15 Premier League games during the 2022–23 season, Mudryk failed to score and had only two assists to show for it.
But now, Merson has brashly asserted that the brilliant volley of the Chelsea No. 15 against Brighton might be the goal that launches his Stamford Bridge career.
“What a goal Mudryk could be the goal that kicks starts his Chelsea career,” the 55-year-old remarked on Twitter.
Undoubtedly, it might be.
Mudryk leaped into Angelo Gabriel’s arms and fist-pumped the air in celebration, showing how much it meant to him.
With Mudryk, Chelsea may have a star for the 2023–24 season.
In our opinion, Chelsea has a very special talent in Mudryk, and if Mauricio Pochettino can keep getting performances like this out of him next season, he might grow into a major Premier League player.
The forward who earns £97,000 a week is incredibly quick, has superb dribbling skills, and is completely direct, but last season he just seemed a little unconfident.
This is understandable given that the majority of Chelsea players toiled under a very disorganized system where Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard all held the reins at various points.
Now that he has Pochettino as a wonderful mentor, we do not see any reason why Mudryk cannot succeed and perform admirably for Chelsea.
