Ben Chilwell confident Mykhailo Mudryk will fulfil potential at Chelsea and ‘hopes’ Mason Mount shines for Man Utd
Following his £89 million transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk to the Premier League in January, Mudryk had a disappointing start to his time there.
The Ukrainian international, who Arsenal also tried to sign, was highly anticipated, but after 17 outings at Stamford Bridge, he still hasn’t scored.
In preseason play under new boss Mauricio Pochettino, Mudryk has put his early troubles aside and has impressed. Chilwell thinks Mudryk can live up to his price tag in the next season.
“I just see countless bags of untapped promise,” the speaker said. That’s what I’ve told him, so I’m not just saying it. Chilwell remarked on Mudryk.I told him that for one reason or another, he hasn’t yet accomplished it.
He’s been on fire the last few days and was obviously on fire in the game against Brighton, so I literally had a talk with him in the changing room after training today and told him he needs to keep that up going forward for the entire season.
He only needs to continue doing what he’s been doing since everyone can see how good he is.
Mudryk is just one of numerous recent additions to Chelsea, but the club has been concentrating on reducing Pochettino’s squad this summer.
Mount, a graduate of the Chelsea academy who just signed a £50 million transfer to Premier League rivals Manchester United, is one of the players who have left Stamford Bridge.
Chilwell was devastated to see his good friend Mount move to Old Trafford, but he hopes he succeeds there.
The England left-back continued to Football London, “Mason was one of my closest pals on the team.”
On a personal level, you will miss one of your closest friends who you spend a lot of time with both on and off the practise pitch.
He was one of the reasons I joined the club, so of course it’s painful for me personally to see him depart, as I believe I stated on my Instagram when he left.
I won’t, however, remark on his motive for departing. I just want to wish him the best and know that he knows what he is doing.
“I’m thrilled for him, and I hope he can go there and perform well,” the speaker said.
