Prospective Manchester United player Kobbie Mainoo has promised to bounce back from his injury setback a “stronger” person and thanked supporters for their encouragement.
After colliding unintentionally with Los Blancos attacker Rodrygo during Thursday’s 2-0 friendly loss to Real Madrid, the 18-year-old was substituted after just three minutes. Due to his inability to put weight on his left foot, the kid had to be assisted off the pitch by two medical personnel.
Erik ten Hag was unable to immediately provide an update on the midfielder following the game, and Mainoo was later seen exiting Texas’ NRG Stadium on crutches and donning a protective boot. His injury’s full extent has not yet been determined.
The loss comes as a shock after an excellent preseason, where the player stood out against Leeds, Lyon, and Arsenal. As a show of faith from his management, he started the game versus Madrid in front of players like Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay.
In response to his setback, Mainoo has now turned to social media, posting on Instagram: “I’ll be back stronger and in no time. Thank you for your encouraging messages.
Numerous United players have expressed their well wishes, including captain Bruno Fernandes, who used the emoji for a heart and wrote: “I’m waiting [for] you on the pitch soon.”
Alejandro Garnacho added: “Soon back bro, you are the best,” while Fred commented: “Good recovery my bro, come back stronger.”
In addition, Mainoo received a letter of support from several academy stars who participated in Wednesday’s friendly match against Wrexham.
He’s going to go crazy when he gets back, wrote Maxi Oyedele, while Marc Jurado, who scored the lone goal against Wrexham, added, “Soon back brother.”
Before being dismissed during the friendly, Dan Gore, who had been elected captain of the young squad, wrote: “Soon back bro,” and Toby Collyer echoed him: “Back soon.”
Ten Hag promised the young playmaker more opportunities in the future in a speech following the game versus Madrid.
He responded, “I understand the question [about his injuries], but you can never know immediately after a game. Waiting for the answer is required. He may not be that bad, and opportunities may present themselves.
