The search for Manchester United’s fourth summer acquisition is about to intensify as Erik ten Hag looks to reunite with Sofyan Amrabat at Old Trafford. After the club reached a £72 million agreement for Rasmus Hojlund, the midfielder from Fiorentina is the Dutchman’s next goal. According to sources, the Premier League club will formally express their interest by making an opening bid in the coming days.
After it became known that the Moroccan international wouldn’t be extending his contract with the Serie A club, rumors of a move to United began to circulate. His current contract expires in 2024, and because there are no plans to extend it,
Despite rumors in Italy that United had already spoken to the Serie A club, United has yet to make an official offer for Amrabat.
Fabrizio Romano claims a deal will be “discussed next week,” and the Italians anticipate making £38.7 million (€45 million) from his sale. With his contract entering its final 10 months, United is looking to negotiate a lower fee.
With the impending announcement of Hojlund’s signing, the Red Devils will surpass £200 million in expenditure for the second consecutive summer. They have already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan. After Scott McTominay and Fred were made available for transfer, Amrabat might be the last piece needed to strengthen their midfield options.
Amrabat has drawn interest from Barcelona and Liverpool as a result of his outstanding World Cup performance with Morocco, which helped the African country become the first from their continent to make it to the semi-finals.
But the chance to reunite with his old mentor Ten Hag might make all the difference. When Amrabat and Ten Hag were both playing for FC Utrecht in the Netherlands early in their careers, it was under the guidance of the Dutchman that Amrabat’s career really took off before he secured a transfer to Feyenoord in 2017.
Ten Hag had already left at that point for Ajax, where he won three league championships and established himself as one of Europe’s most intriguing coaches. Even though it has been six years since they last collaborated, it is apparent that he is still a huge fan of Amrabat as he seeks to reconcile with the midfielder.
Amrabat, who is 26 years old and is reportedly eager to play in the Premier League as his career nears its height, feels the same way.
After acknowledging interest in the Moroccan earlier this week, Amrabat’s agent, Mahmoud El Boustati, fueled rumors that the player might depart.
He stated, “Quite a few clubs are interested in Sofyan. “Making the best decision now is the key. He only joined Fiorentina on Monday and is still simply a player for them.
