Today, Manchester City played Atletico Madrid in their third preseason friendly, which they defeated 2-1.
Diego Simeone’s team defeated Pep Guardiola’s team at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Due to the bad weather, today’s kickoff was postponed by 40 minutes.
It appeared to be possible to cancel it at one time.
But it went ahead, and City ultimately dropped the match.
The teams played well in the first half, which ended in a scoreless tie. However, Guardiola made a number of adjustments at the break that may have disrupted the rhythm.
Aymeric Laporte, who many people assumed would have departed the club by this point, was one of the players that started the game but exited early.
He is, however, still a City player and, in Steph Houghton’s opinion, is currently very frustrated.
Steph Houghton sympathizes with “world-class” Aymeric Laporte following last season’s inactivity
On the Matchday Live segment of the City’s official YouTube channel, the backline of the team was evaluated prior to the match today.
When Laporte was brought up, City Women captain Houghton voiced her compassion for the international football player from Spain. We talk about Laporte as if he shouldn’t really be starting, she continued. But he is a center-back of the absolute highest caliber. He’s faced a lot of opposition in that field, so I hope he succeeds.
“I believe he exhibits such quality. popping up with a couple of goals at set-pieces here and there.
“I’m sure he’s quite frustrated. But when you consider the caliber and the fact that your manager is truly world-class, it’s difficult to contest that assertion. Evidently, there have been many rumors regarding him maybe leaving.
Laporte played with confidence today against Atletico.
He made a few significant clearances and completed 36 of 40 passes (90%) according to Sofascore.
Laporte has struggled mightily at City
Laporte has clearly had some bad luck lately at City.
Few center-halves in the world of football can pass the ball as well as he can.
He excels in spraying diagonal passes and breaking the lines. As Houghton notes, he does provide a few goals as well.
But Manuel Akanji has demonstrated his ability to play on the left side, while Nathan Ake was so outstanding in the previous season.
If he left this summer, it would be a terrible pity. Tottenham Hotspur was mentioned as being interested earlier this summer, along with what a great signing he would be for them if he moved there.
Nevertheless, a lot of City supporters would probably be content if Josko Gvardiol joined RB Leipzig.
