In the next weeks, Manchester United will prioritize player sales as Erik Ten Hag attempts to trim down his overstuffed team.
Ten Hag has so far had a rather successful summer of acquisitions, sealing the moves of attacking midfielder Mason Mount, striker Rasmus Hojlund, and goalkeeper Andre Onana. The club’s priorities are to acquire transfer cash and lower their salary cost after a significant transfer expenditure.
Only Anthony Elanga and Alex Telles received transfer payments from United; they joined Nottingham Forest and Al-Nassr, respectively. Along with Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer, David de Gea, Jack Butland, Phil Jones, and Axel Tuanzebe left after their loan agreements expired.
A backup custodian is anticipated to join United’s team after Zion Suzuki turned down the chance to join from Urawa Red Diamonds. Additional additions to United’s roster are also anticipated. The team is also eager to sign deals for a new central defender and Sofyan Amrabat.
Those arrivals, however, are dependent on departures. Although Matt Turner is scheduled to transfer to the City Ground from Arsenal, it is currently unknown if Dean Henderson will make a move after his loan with Nottingham Forest. Dean Henderson is eager to leave Old Trafford.
Henderson is a player United will consider offers for, but further departures are anticipated. While Eric Bailly has returned to the team from Marseille, he has yet to train with the first team and will be permanently transferred. Saudi Arabia and Fulham have expressed interest in him.
There is a similar level of interest in midfielder Fred, who will also depart after the arrival of Mount from Chelsea. United hope to gain a £ 20 million transfer fee for the Brazil international, who joined from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.
Donny van de Beek, who is in talks with La Liga club Real Sociedad, is another midfielder who is anticipated to leave on a permanent basis. Since joining Manchester United from Ajax in 2020, the Dutchman has struggled to get regular playing time under various managers at Old Trafford.
Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire’s futures are also in doubt. West Ham is intrigued by both players but has been hesitant to match United’s asking prices because manager Jan-Erik Ten Hag thinks both can help his team next season.
To enable them to have additional incomings this summer, United would be open to sales at the right price. As the transfer window enters its final month, interested parties may show their commitment by making United-friendly offers.
