English football league authorities plan to precisely calculate the additional time to reflect specific play stops and add lengths of injured time to matches that are comparable to those introduced during the World Cup.
The 35 EFL games that took place on the first weekend of the 2023–24 season all had at least eight minutes of overtime, and all but two of them went beyond the 100-minute mark as a result of the new laws.
Rodri contributed seven assists and scored four goals, including the game-winning goal in Man City’s historic treble-winning 2022–23 campaign victory over Inter Milan in June. He was one of the season’s star players.
The Spain international played 56 times for the Citizens last season, clocking 4,478 minutes in total. This is 349 minutes more than the following outfield star, Erling Haaland, and 203 minutes more than custodian Ederson.
Rodri is still a crucial component of Pep Guardiola’s Man City team heading into the new campaign. The manager claimed last weekend that the ‘big brain’ match officials never consulted him regarding the new injury-time rules, and the midfielder has agreed, stating that playing a lot of games is “not healthy.”
Rodri told reporters, “I don’t recall precisely how many games I played, but I had a conversation with the team and the coach because starting 57 or 59 games and playing in 60 or something is not healthy.
“You can do that for one season, but when you do it twice or three times in a row, your physicality may start to deteriorate, which may be worse for the team. So I’ve got to be careful. We’ve already mentioned that things can’t always be this way.
“Last year, on the other hand, I felt like we were battling for everything, and I had to exert as much physical effort as I could. I sometimes feel awful about it at the end of the season because of this, but for me, it was great.
To be completely honest, I never get enough sleep, the 27-year-old continued. After taking a little over a month off, I feel fairly much recovered. We have a coach that is understanding and does everything in his power to help us heal, so it was a good vacation.
Because he recognizes the value of relaxation, I believe we are the last Premier League team to begin preseason. So, sure, I’m pleased with how the last season ended and am looking forward to the upcoming, lengthy one.
