Chelsea may need to reenter the transfer market in order to buy another attacker, according to Mauricio Pochettino.
The news last week that 25-year-old Blues forward Christopher Nkunku had sustained a serious knee injury during the preseason gave the team a harsh blow.
Nkunku may not be available until the New Year owing to the knee injury he sustained in a preseason match against Borussia Dortmund, according to a report by journalist Dean Jones on GiveMeSport this week.
The head coach of Chelsea has now acknowledged that his team might bring in a replacement.
In a press conference on Friday, Pochettino stated that Chelsea might be willing to accept a Nkunku replacement.
“He (Nkunku) was crucial to our success. Now, it’s important to focus on the future and stay optimistic about when he may rejoin the team, according to Pochettino, who was quoted by Football.London.
We are attempting to locate a solution in the market, possibly for the short, medium, and long terms, to find the perfect profile for the team.
Nkunku, who makes £195,000 a week (according to Spotrac), appeared to have the potential to play a key role for Chelsea during his first season with the team.
Because of his versatility and ability to play everywhere in the frontline, including as a No. 10, the French forward unfortunately leaves a significant gap in the lineup.
Although we are confident Nkunku will develop into the talisman everyone anticipates once he is ready again, the club is right to make a move to replace him while the transfer window is still open.
We’ll wait to get more specific information on targets, but certain names that we believe meet the requirements have been mentioned this summer in various transfer rumors. Michael Olise of Crystal Palace, Rayan Cherki of Lyon, and Mohammed Kudus of Ajax are a few names that come to mind as potential candidates.
