The Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande is the subject of a lengthy article in today’s edition of the Portuguese newspaper Record.
This article expands on the links the Gunners had with the player during the summer and suggests Mikel Arteta’s team should make another attempt to sign him in the future.
Record begins by stating that Arsenal has been interested in Diomande ever when he was a member of Midtjylland. Only in January did they decide against purchasing him since the Danish side’s demands were deemed to be unreasonable.
The Gunners continued to follow him following his arrival at Sporting at the start of the year. So they tried in the summer, but were only ‘willing to offer’ €35m for the defender, whose release clause is of €80m, and the Lions weren’t interested in that bid.
According to the story, Arsenal ‘promise’ to be back for him in the next summer.
Sporting are thought to be genuinely extremely comfortable with the scenario, because besides having him covered by a hefty release clause, they know he has potential to see his price climb and leave the club for a big amount.
