According to a source, Arsenal is reportedly considering a move for a new striker after scouts observed one of its targets in action over the weekend.
Arsenal is bringing in who in January?
Despite being linked with a move for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande, the youngster’s representative has made it clear that his client is content where he is for the time being. The Arsenal are eager on improving in various places this winter.
Since Ousmane Dembele has had a sluggish start since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona for £50m in the summer, Mikel Arteta may also consider adding reinforcements in wide areas. Ousmane Dembele has now been identified as a potential target in this regard.
The Borussia Dortmund sensation Jamie Bynoe-Gittens might also become a possibility for the north Londoners this January, according to transfer insider Dean Jones, even if he does not think the 19-year-old is likely to be among their primary targets.
Ivan Toney of Brentford appears to be one of Arsenal’s top targets in terms of striker alternatives; transfer insider Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the two parties have already held negotiations over a deal for the 27-year-old.
The Gunners are also looking at Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord, according to 90min, who reported that scouts were sent to observe him play during his team’s ferocious match with Ajax on Sunday, which was ultimately called off owing to crowd disturbances.
The Mexican put on a tremendous show, contributing two goals and an assist for Feyenoord before the game was called at the hour mark, leaving scouts impressed.
Gimenez undoubtedly struck the eye during his brief time on the pitch, but other scouts, including those from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, were also present, so there is likely to be fierce competition for his services this winter.
The 22-year-old made the decision to tie his long-term future to Feyenoord back in August by signing a new deal that would keep him at De Kuip until 2027, but it now seems that he will be inundated with offers to move elsewhere during the January transfer window.
For Feyenoord, how many goals has Santiago Gimenez scored?
The forward, who was born in Buenos Aires, has scored 29 goals in 51 appearances for Feyenoord since joining from Mexican club CD Cruz Azul, and there are early indications that he can improve even more this season.
The Mexican international has now scored six goals through his first five matches, excluding the two goals he scored against Ajax at the weekend, and has established himself as a major member of the Dutch team.
The Feyenoord player has been compared to Erling Haaland and called a “machine” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig. He ranks in the 99th percentile for touches in the opposing penalty area per 90 over the past year.
However, taking a gamble on Gimenez could be risky given his lack of experience outside of the Eredivisie, especially as Arteta also has Toney on his shortlist and Toney scored 20 Premier League goals last season.
