Manager Erik ten Hag of Manchester United has stated that his team is now in a position to win trophies.
United will play Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday at Wembley. United has entered the Premier League title race and is currently only five points behind league leader Arsenal.
Prior to that, on Thursday, United takes on Barcelona at Old Trafford in the second leg of their Europa League play-off matchup after drawing the first leg 2-2 last week at Camp Nou.
Ten Hag stated at a news conference on Wednesday that “we all want to play huge games, big contests.” While it’s still February, huge games are coming up, and we are really enjoying it, looking forward to it, and enthusiastic about it. When we were young, we dreamed of it. Now, we are in a position to make our dreams come true. Because we want to compete with the greatest, we must offer our all.
“It’s about trophies, not about getting credit. Although we have a chance to win on Sunday, the next game and the Europa League always take priority.
“We must remain focused as we move from game to game, but more importantly, you must maintain the same frame of mind that every day you want to give a better version of yourself.”
“You have to play your best when you are up against such dominant teams like Barcelona; else, you have no chance. We must perform at our peak level from this season if we are to go to the next round. We have a lot of energy because we are excited about it and we believe in it.
Ten Hag was seen gesturing to the United fans after the team’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday. He was pleading with them to cheer their side on loudly when they played Barcelona.
Ten Hag declared, “I am ecstatic. “In Old Trafford, two large, famous teams are playing against one another. There will be a terrific vibe and a huge atmosphere. It’s the best you can get, in my opinion.
In a restaurant in Wilmslow, Cheshire, earlier this week, Ten Hag was seen dining with United’s greatest manager of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson.
Speaking with folks that are knowledgeable and experienced is something I always like doing. He wishes to support, assist, and share it. You get the impression that he truly considers Manchester United to be his club and is genuinely invested in our success. I am excited about our upcoming date night because it was such a nice night.
Gavi and Pedri, two of Barcelona’s key midfielders, won’t be available for the match at Old Trafford. They are clearly outstanding players, Ten Hag observed. They have a good impact on Barcelona’s game despite being relatively young. Yet, because of the depth of their team, they have players that can step in for them. A very good Barcelona team will be present.
Anthony Martial is still unable to play, although Harry and Antony Maguire are expected to return from minor ailments.
“We’ll wait till he returns to team practice since he is back on the field but not yet. What will we change, exactly? You’ll observe on the field. Of course, we have a general notion, but at this time, we can’t reveal it.”
