Marcus Rashford’s readiness for today’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United is a concern for Manchester United.
The 25-year-old was replaced in the 88th minute of Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League victory over Barcelona for the Red Devils, and he then posted a cryptic statement on social media to imply a fitness issue.
Yet during Friday’s pre-game press conference, Erik ten Hag was unable to allay any concerns about injuries.
The Netherlands manager responded, “I don’t know. “The players are entering now, and we need to conduct investigations. Naturally, we did right away after the game, but often, you have to wait for a definitive diagnosis. Waiting is necessary.
Anthony Martial was excluded by Ten Hag because he is still recovering from a hip injury. Long-term absences include Christan Eriksen and Donny van de Beek.
After scoring the game-winning goal against Barcelona while making his comeback from a dead leg, summer signing Antony might be called back.
The expected Manchester United starting lineup to take against Eddie Howe’s team at Wembley is as follows:
- GK: David de Gea
- Diogo Dalot (in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka)
- Raphael Varane
- Lisandro Martinez
- Luke Shaw
- Casemiro
- Fred
- Bruno Fernandes
- Antony (in for Wout Weghorst)
- Jadon Sancho
- Marcus Rashford
