To free up finances for new hires, Erik ten Hag is prepared to place five Manchester United players on the transfer list this summer. Joel Glazer’s favorite Anthony Martial is reportedly one of the stars who might be let go.
Casemiro, Antony, and Lisandro Martinez were among the newcomers to Old Trafford who the Red Devils shelled out an astounding £213 million on. The sale of Andreas Pereira and Tahith Chong, in contrast, only netted United £11.6 million.
Ten Hag is hoping that this summer would be different and is prepared to shed some prominent figures who don’t seem to fit his system to raise even more money to sign his top targets, Harry Kane being at the top of his list.
According to the MEN, Ten Hag is willing to part ways with Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams, Alex Telles, Martial, and Eric Bailly in exchange for money. The latter is now on loan at Marseille and will move there permanently if he makes a certain number of appearances to justify the transfer. United will put him on their official transfer list if he doesn’t.
Another player who it is said that United is willing to let go of is Dean Henderson. There are rumors that the goalie might be used as a negotiating chip in an outrageous attempt to get Harry Kane off the Spurs.
Ten Hag is getting frustrated with Jadon Sancho’s lack of improvement since joining Man United for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund, and he is rumored to be considering selling him.
Martial spent his time at United, and co-owner Glazer twice prevented Jose Mourinho from selling him when he tried to do so again in 2019.
Martial’s potential was something Glazer was reportedly interested in exploring at Old Trafford because he rates the Frenchman highly and compares him to Pele.
If Ten Hag receives a competitive offer for the forward, Martial might eventually be put up for sale. However, this hasn’t happened yet, and the Glazers are now eager to sell up.
With the expectation that Wout Weghorst will leave once his loan agreement at Old Trafford expires, Ten Hag has made signing a center-forward a priority this summer.
The top transfer target is, as noted, Kane, although United is also considering Goncalo Ramos and Victor Osimhen.
Newcastle defeated United 2-0 over the weekend, which cost United ground in the battle for the top four. Ten Hag also emphasized the significance of Champions League qualification when talking about bringing in new players.
At his post-game press conference, he stated, “Of course, we are more interesting when we are in the Champions League.”
Yet, in my opinion, players still find us appealing even when we’re not. When we weren’t playing in the Champions League last year, I also saw that. But I do want to stress that we must participate in the Champions League.
We have two choices. Being in the top four in the Premier League or winning the Europa League are the two options.
