Trent Alexander-Arnold put on another polished effort in the victory over Fulham, continuing his late-season comeback.
Mohamed Salah’s penalty late in the first half handed Jurgen Klopp’s team a narrow victory over Fulham and their fifth straight league triumph.
The race for a top-four finish is on, but they are still four points behind Manchester United in fourth, who still have two games left against Liverpool.
All of their performances have significantly improved, but Alexander-Arnold’s most recent ones had the audience captivated.
The right-back has moved more centrally and inverted in his position as a result of a modest tactical change, allowing him to enjoy the freedom of the center of the pitch when in possession.
As a result, during the course of the six games he played in April alone, the 24-year-old recorded six assists.
Fans will be happier that he has improved his defensive moves than they will be that his attacking play and passing abilities, despite his generally inconsistent form this season, have improved.
For instance, Alexander-Arnold won back possession 15 times against Fulham last night, more than any other player on the pitch and more than double the total of any Liverpool player, according to Neil Jones, a writer for GOAL.
He had more touches (122), passes completed (74), tackles contested (three), and shots (three) than any other player on the field.
Those are the kinds of numbers that a skillful central midfielder would post, and the fact that the defender has managed to reinvent himself after a trying season is only a bonus for Liverpool.
It makes him and Liverpool more challenging to handle. especially in light of the fact that, up until mid-February of this season, he just had one assist to his credit.
And now he’s made history by becoming the first player to ever play in the Premier League to record two assists in five straight games.
It might be time to stop referring to it as his “new role” after his recent performance and simply enjoy the next phase of a fantastic footballer’s career.
