Due to Liverpool’s troubles this season, Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged that he could have waited too long to make “major” changes at the club.
With 12 points separating them from Newcastle and Manchester United after their 2-2 draw with Arsenal last month, the Reds’ dreams of finishing in the top four appear to be over.
Since that time, they have won six straight games, and although though they are currently only one point behind the top four, Man United, who holds the fourth and final slot, also has a game in hand.
Even if they win their remaining three games, Klopp’s team will now need Newcastle and the Red Devils to lose in order to improbably secure a Champions League spot.
When asked about his team’s recent improvement, Klopp responded, “I spoke about that fairly regularly, we tried to give ourselves a chance for a fresh start, we tried different football things.” On Monday, his team travels to Leicester.
We had 8 or 9 days to train in between games since we wanted to almost start the new season right away. For all of us, this was a breath of fresh air.
Creating something new is a lot of fun for us, so we want to handle the game differently, safeguard it differently, and construct it differently. Then the outcomes were revealed, and it wasn’t a total coincidence.
“Sometimes you have to alter huge things, usually just tiny things, but sometimes you really do have to change big things, that is apparent.”
Imagine if we changed it after we came very close to winning four trophies the previous season. if is why we had a good cause to do so.
Klopp continued, saying, “We maybe started it this season a bit late.” This was followed by an acknowledgment about the adjustments.
Trent Alexander-Arnold now plays a hybrid midfield position, moving into central areas when the Reds have the ball. This is just one example of the adjustments.
The Reds have had a tough season, giving off glimpses of their potential to turn things around just to go on yet another losing streak.
Following their 7-0 triumph over Manchester United in March, they lost to Bournemouth and Man City, drew with Chelsea, and tied with Arsenal.
They are back in the chase for the top four after winning six games and scoring 17 goals in the process. However, many things still need to go their way.
If they win their remaining three games, Manchester United must lose two of their last four to fall short.
Otherwise, they would need Newcastle to lose two of their next four games and draw one.
Two seasons ago, Liverpool seemed unlikely to finish in the top four. However, a strong finish to the campaign, highlighted by significant events like Alisson’s game-winning header against West Brom, enabled the Reds move up to third place by the end of the campaign.
Miracles do happen, Klopp stated in relation to Alisson’s goal. However, we still had control over it.
We must win right now, but maybe nothing does. Champions League was absolutely out of reach a few weeks ago, but now it is within reach.
“However, Newcastle and Manchester United deserve to end the season ahead of us.” It only concerns how well we do. It’s done.
