Thiago Silva, a defender for Chelsea, is adamant about staying with the club for the upcoming season but says he would go on with no difficulty if the new manager didn’t want him to.
Despite the upheaval that has caused them to drop to 12th in the Premier League standings, Silva, 38, is still one of the club’s top players. Saudi Arabian teams are among those drawn to the Brazilian defender by his performance.
Before the news of interest from Saudi Arabia this week leaked, he had already signed a one-year deal but was frequently mentioned in connection with a return to Brazilian club Fluminense.
In March of this year, the defender told reporters he was committed to finishing out his contract at Chelsea and would only quit the team if the new manager did not think he was talented enough to play at this level.
According to Football London, the former PSG player said: “I have a contract here, right? Even worse, it appears that Fluminense fans are in a relationship as a result of various things that are coming to light.
Some people have even cursed at me on social media, while others have wished me a speedy arrival or warned that they would stop visiting if I didn’t.
Even I find it monotonous, but if I recall correctly, Chelsea and I renewed our contract. I’ve always kept my end of the bargain. If Chelsea doesn’t want me back for the following season or if the new manager wants me to leave, I won’t stay here. I’m going to try to stick to the terms of my agreement, which is valid through next year.
When his contract with PSG expired in 2020, Silva moved to Chelsea, where he has since won the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.
