According to reports, Manchester United is prepared to offload Anthony Martial during the forthcoming transfer window in order to raise money and make room on the roster for a marquee acquisition for the upcoming campaign.
With big things anticipated of the Frenchman, Martial relocated to Old Trafford as a youngster in 2015 for £58 million. However, his tenure at Manchester United has been marred by inconsistent performances and injuries, and Erik ten Hag has grown weary of his unavailability.
While the Dutch manager didn’t openly criticise his player, rumours say he is open to offers. On Saturday, walking straight down the tunnel after being replaced in the 57th minute against Bournemouth hasn’t helped matters.
The Sun reports that this summer, United will try to get rid of Martial, who only has one year left on his contract. The 27-year-old has made just 10 Premier League starts so far this season due to four different injuries, which have all extended his absence from the pitch.
Martial is now valued at €15 million on Transfermarkt, but it is anticipated that Manchester United will try to raise that price. A larger transfer budget would enable them to sign another well-known forward to take his position.
Indeed, Neymar Jr. from Paris Saint-Germain is apparently a target for the Red Devils. L’Equipe reports that Manchester United is in negotiations to sign the Brazilian permanently or on a short-term loan while also contributing to his big salary.
Jadon Sancho will undoubtedly be delighted to hear that Neymar’s Brazilian teammate Casemiro has spoken with him about a potential transfer.
In the 2015 Champions League final, Neymar inspired Barcelona to a 6-1 victory over PSG at Camp Nou after they had trailed 4-0 after the first leg. A 14-year-old Sancho tweeted: “My idol Neymar.”
If the 31-year-old moves to England, Sancho, who is now 23 years old, would certainly be vying with Neymar for a spot in Manchester United’s starting lineup.
Neymar’s exit would be welcomed by PSG supporters as well, who earlier this month protested his employment at the club by showing up at his home.
