Today, Australian heavyweight Faiga Opelu was successfully eliminated by Joseph Parker, who was making his ring comeback.
Tyson Fury, the heavyweight champion and Parker’s training partner, said that Parker was in the best shape of his life and that he was ready to put on a spectacular display before the fight, which was his first professional outing in Australia.
The former WBO champion dominated Opelu and ended the bout inside 90 seconds of the opening bell, proving that “The Gipsy King” was right to make that forecast.
Parker has improved steadily under the direction of trainer Andy Lee, whom he hired more than two years ago, and in his fifth attempt, with Lee acting as his cornerman, recorded his first knockout victory.
The 31-year-old started off quickly, landing a left-hook that knocked Opelu off balance before finishing him with a straight right-hand.
Parker’s stoppage was his first in more than three years, and Fury, who was watching from the sidelines, was undoubtedly impressed.
According to Sky Sports, the WBC champion has admitted that he is not interested in giving Parker a crack at the championship but has stated that he thinks Parker merits a matchup with a marquee opponent after the lopsided beating.
I would like to see him compete in a rematch with Andy Ruiz, Joe Joyce, Dillian Whyte, or even AJ. Joseph Parker is once again well-known.
As rumours of Fury fighting Demsey McKean in either Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane this summer develop, it may not be the last time we see Fury travel “down under.”
