Jadon Sancho has failed to make an impact since his spectacular £73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund, and Dwight Yorke is sure that he is on “borrowed time” at Manchester United.
After a lacklustre debut season, the 23-year-old England winger is nearing the end of his second season at Old Trafford and is still having trouble quieting his detractors.
Since Sancho moved from Germany to the Premier League, fan favourite Yorke, who was a member of the legendary 1999 treble-winning club, has been extremely unimpressed. In fact, Yorke thinks Sancho’s long-term career may be in peril unless he can quickly change his ways.
Speaking on behalf of Ace Odds to Mirror Football, Yorke said of Sancho: “Yeah, it’s kind of a mystery. He represented so much optimism and possibility for teams like Manchester United. He made a significant investment and excelled while working for Dortmund.
“For some reason, the move from there to Manchester hasn’t gone as well for him as we had anticipated. From a mental standpoint, which seems to be well known, [he has] truly battled. The price tag hasn’t actually been met by him.
So, if you must be fair in many ways, I guess he is on borrowed time. He hasn’t really delivered the results we were hoping for.
Sancho has only scored five goals in 24 games this season for Manchester United, a far cry from the fantastic totals he amassed during his wildly successful time playing in the Bundesliga with Dortmund.
Gabriel Agbonlahor, a talkSPORT analyst and former striker for Aston Villa, criticised Sancho earlier in the season for his unwillingness to challenge opponents and said three of his Old Trafford teammates found his propensity for sending the ball backward to be “annoying.”
Agbonlahor stated, “Sancho, he gets the ball and passes it backwards,” back in October. Stop handing the ball back to me, Luke Shaw, I’m giving you the ball, go take someone on. He did it every week in Dortmund.
Does he feel that he lacks the quickness or cunning to go by someone since his confidence is so low? After 52 minutes, he is being removed for Fred. It only goes to demonstrate that Sancho’s inability to perform has forced them to play Fernandes up front for the last 35 minutes, with Rashford moving to the left and Antony remaining on the right.
How many times must you act him out? How many chances is this guy going to get?, you could be asking yourself if you’re [Cristiano] Ronaldo. Since Sancho isn’t performing, Elanga asks, “How many times is Sancho going to get the chance to play for Manchester United?”
