Nine days before the FA Cup final, Manchester United experienced a serious injury scare when Antony had to be carried off against Chelsea.
In the 24th minute of tonight’s Premier League encounter at Old Trafford, the Brazil international was injured after being tackled by Trevoh Chalobah.
The challenge from Chalobah, which was declared fair by the on-field officials and the Video Assistant Referee, left Antony writhing on the ground clutching his right leg.
On the pitch, he was treated for around five minutes. At one point, he tried to stand up but fell back to the ground. Marcus Rashford took his position after being transferred to a stretcher, leaving the pitch with his hands over his face.
The availability of Antony for the FA Cup final on June 3 at Wembley against Manchester City will be of greater concern to manager Erik ten Hag than United’s match against Fulham on Sunday.
City hopes to go closer to the Treble, and they are aiming for a second trophy this year after winning the Carabao Cup.
Now that Antony must demonstrate his game-day readiness quickly, Ten Hag may find it difficult to choose his team.
Since joining United from Ajax for £82 million last August, the 23-year-old has had a mixed first season, scoring eight goals in 44 games across all competitions.
