Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, insisted that his team would improve after losing to Man City in the FA Cup final.
Gundogan, the captain of the City team, set a record by scoring the FA Cup final’s quickest goal in history 12 seconds after the game began.
United tied the score against the odds in the 33rd minute on a Bruno Fernandes penalty as they looked to win both domestic cups in the same season for the first time and end City’s chances of replicating their own historic treble from 1999.
Seven minutes after the break, though, Gundogan gave City the advantage back with another volley, and Pep Guardiola’s team held off some late pressure to win the cup for a record-setting seventh time.
Afterwards Ten Hag told the BBC: ‘We are broken, disappointed of course, but I said I am proud of my team. We did very well, we conceded two soft goals but we were in the game. There was a great spirit and very good organisation.
They were difficult goals because they were soft and preventable. It is impressive for the team to play against City and give up nearly no goals from open play, but it is disheartening to give up goals like this.
“This team displayed character, personality, and resilience.” We are aware that we still have a ways to go, but this will help. Although we failed the exam, there were several positives that we may carry over into the upcoming season.
Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, continued, “Everyone is down and it’s really difficult.” We had hoped to wrap up the season differently, but it was not feasible.
It wasn’t a particularly successful season overall, but it was a solid one. We’ve made tremendous strides for the upcoming season. We will return the next year and strive to take home bigger awards.
In response to giving up early, we said: “We started the game poorly, but we got back into it and had decent spells on the ball in the first half.
We had some terrific counters after we scored, but we were unable to capitalise. After we gave up early in the second half, we still had chances to score again, but we didn’t, and City earned the victory.
The first goal was a beautiful strike, but we were too soft and gave up too much room. It’s a spectacular strike, but if players were tighter, they might be able to stop it.
