This summer, Manchester United has been strongly connected with a deal for Harry Kane, but a new development may put an end to any hopes of getting him to Old Trafford.
What has changed about Manchester United’s interest in Harry Kane?
The Times reports that Manchester United’s chances of signing the Tottenham Hotspur striker this summer are dwindling.
According to the report, Erik ten Hag is still eager to make Kane his center forward but Daniel Levy is adamant that he won’t go with his best asset.
Even though the striker has just one year left on his contract and Man United reportedly sought to negotiate a deal to sign him, Levy is determined that he will not be moved to bolster a Premier League competitor.
Should Man United keep trying to sign Harry Kane?
After the poor performances from loanee Wout Weghorst and starter Anthony Martial, the Manchester giants will without a doubt be desperate to reinforce in the center-forward position this summer. There is no time to spare in identifying the ideal player to fill the position ahead of next season.
Kane, who Jamie Redknapp has dubbed “exquisite,” should not be given up on by Ten Hag, though. The 29-year-old would be a huge asset in the forward line and would easily replace Wayne Rooney at the club, who is now retired and was never truly replaced at Old Trafford.
The two neighbours share striking similarities, as Kane succeeded the legendary Man United forward as England’s most dependable centre striker, not only by following in his footsteps as team captain but also by surpassing his all-time goal-scoring mark on the international arena.
Even more similarities exist between the two players’ styles of play, with Rooney frequently slipping into a play-making role other than that of a classic number nine in his later career.
That allowed him to trouble opponents much like the Spurs striker does for his club, by being comfortable, self-assured, and productive in a deeper role with good wingers on either side working to create opportunities for them.
Taking everything into account, the most glaring and significant similarity between the two is their unmatched finishing and capacity to end games with their eye for goal, which would return Man United to the elite level at which they were competing when their all-time leading scorer represented the team in the final third.
The £100m-valued England captain, dubbed the “GOAT” of the Premier League by Christian Stellini, made 49 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing to 47% of Spurs’ goals in the top flight and only losing out to Erling Haaland in the race for the golden boot. He scored a whopping 32 goals and provided five assists.
In light of this, Man United should seize any opportunity to sign Kane this summer with both hands if there is even the remotest prospect of success. Kane’s leadership, playing style, and drive for goals may be the answer to Ten Hag’s biggest problem for the upcoming campaign.
