As part of his merciless revamp of the Old Trafford first-team roster, Erik ten Hag is determined to add two strikers to the Manchester United roster this summer.
The goal for United this summer is to bring in two forwards, one who can slot into their strongest starting lineup right away and another who can be rotated throughout the season.
Anthony Martial, a French striker who has had another disappointing season without consistent form or fitness, is a player that Ten Hag is eager to move on this summer. Although United co-chairman Joel Glazer favours the striker, the manager is likely to prevail in the debate about selling.
When Jose Mourinho tried to let Martial depart in an effort to lure then-Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic to Old Trafford, the club’s Glazer family owners rejected his attempts to do so. The club will, nonetheless, consider any proposals this summer.
Due to Napoli’s expensive asking price for Victor Osimhen and Tottenham’s refusal to trade striker Harry Kane, much less to a direct Premier League opponent, United have turned to other alternatives. Moves for Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta and Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt have been discussed.
The Athletic reported earlier this month that interest in both had advanced, with agreements being evaluated this summer. It would represent Ten Hag’s ongoing reworking of United’s starting lineup.
Hojlund, a striker for Denmark who represents Denmark at international level, has excelled in his first season in Bergamo after joining from Sturm Graz last summer. Despite other teams keeping tabs on his development, it was claimed that United was the one showing the most interest.
Hojlund’s chances of being signed by United are improving. The striker is reportedly available for £43 million (€50 million), and according to Sky Sports, the Red Devils are about to formalize their interest in the player.
When asked about his wish to play for United back in January, Hojlund said: “Now that you ask, I will not disguise the fact that I am a passionate Manchester United supporter. Therefore, it would be one of the main factors for me personally. However, that doesn’t mean I would reject offers from other major teams in the future.
The SEG agency, which also represents United manager Ten Hag, just signed the highly regarded Danish international. Hojlund provided the following justification for his choice to seek fresh counsel over his future to Tipsbladet: All I can say is that it’s a trial period.
Hojlund, when asked about United’s alleged interest in him, frankly remarked: “It is a huge club, so I must have done something properly if they are supposed to want me. We need to wait and see.
“As you can see and hear, I think quite a few attackers could experience a lot of change this summer, as many clubs are hunting for a no. 9. There will undoubtedly be some sort of event, and then we’ll have to wait and see if I’m a part of it.
“I’m thrilled to be playing for Atlanta, and we’ve qualified for Europe. Now that I’ve found myself in this position, which is excellent, we must wait and see.
Kolo Muani, a France international, may be harder to sign, but United has gained ground because Frankfurt won’t try to raise his relatively low yearly wage of €1.5 million while his future is uncertain, according to Sky Sports in Germany.
According to the same report, Bayern Munich is also interested in signing the France international, who is rumoured to be moving this summer.
