Many United fans would be happy to co-sign this deal.
The club is apparently working behind the scenes to get certain important targets, despite Erik ten Hag’s complaints that the sale of Manchester United may be delaying transfer operations. Among them is Declan Rice.
In his first season in charge, the Dutchman helped United win the League Cup, reach the FA Cup final, and finish third in the league. Although it was far from a complete success, ten Hag deserves a lot of credit for handling a difficult Cristiano Ronaldo and turning around a team that had been consistently conceding goals in the early part of the season.
To help his club cross the finish line, Ten Hag brought in a few stop-gap players, including Marcel Sabitzer, Jack Butland, and Wout Weghorst, all on loan. However, all of them will be going on. Butland has already signed with Rangers, although Weghorst might play for Burnley against United next year.
Given that Tottenham has set a high price and dug in, United appears to be looking for a less expensive Harry Kane replacement. Mason Mount is the subject of action, with Chelsea receiving a second, stronger offer for the midfielder.
Due to Sabitzer’s return to Bayern Munich and the fact that Fred is a target for Fulham, United is lacking in the midfield position. The team is still hoping to sign Declan Rice. They have the option of a player switch, and that choice has just became more alluring.
Man United considering a player-plus-cash move for Declan Rice
For the previous month, it appeared that Declan Rice would be moving to Arsenal. That may still be the case given that Bayern Munich did not contribute to West Ham’s £100 million valuation of the midfielder, but negotiations are now underway between the two parties.
The Gunners are prepared to spend up to £85 million, and they might add add-ons to the agreement that are stretched out over the following number of seasons. Therefore, the door is still open to potential suitors.
At this point, Manchester United had been interested in Rice for more than a decade, and on separate punditry gigs for Sky Sports and ITV, Roy Keane encouraged the club to sign both him and Jack Grealish. More recently, he stated that signing Rice and Harry Kane for United should be a top priority this summer.
According to a report from Sky Sports, United thinks they still have a chance to get Declan Rice if they offer about £60 million up front and one or two players. One option is Harry Maguire, but the Hammers wouldn’t even come close to financing his salary. Maguire would need to depart from United and accept a smaller contract with the Hammers.
United will believe that Scott McTominay is their best chance. West Ham would be switching out one hard-running, aggressive, and fiery midfielder for another. The international form of McTominay, who on Tuesday night against Georgia scored his fifth goal of Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, makes the move more alluring.
The 26-year-old made his United debut in 2017 and has since played 209 times for the team. If he stays at United, he seems destined to be a squad player for Erik ten Hag and might enjoy a regular role in London.
