Toby Cudworth, a journalist, has speculated that Riyad Mahrez would leave Manchester City this summer.
The winger has found himself linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium after winning the triple at the end of his sixth season with Manchester City, notably with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli eager to sign him.
Recently, more behind-the-scenes information about the situation has come to light, with one journalist talking about what might happen to the 32-year-old in this window.
Journalist talks about possible Mahrez departure
On a recent episode of the Talking Transfers podcast, Cudworth made the following remarks regarding Mahrez and his current circumstances at City.
Riyad Mahrez was not amused by being left out of the Champions League and FA Cup finals, he claimed.
Mahrez has consistently been in the starting lineup for City whenever they have needed to win, and his statistics are superb in terms of both goal production and assists. In that regard, he is similar to Bernardo Silva.
“But he is nearing the conclusion of his Man City contract; he still has one year left. Saudi Arabia is interested in this man.
“From what we believe, Al-Alhi has offered him a contract of a whopping £45 million a year. He hasn’t decided what he’s going to do yet, but I believe there is a strong possibility that he will leave Man City this summer.
Despite not playing in either the FA Cup or Champions League finals last year, the winger still demonstrated how crucial he can be in terms of providing goal contributions when given the chance to participate.
The Algerian participated in 47 games across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and supplying 13 assists.
Some of those crucial games for City included his goal-scoring performances in victories against Tottenham Hotspur (4–2) in the Premier League and Sheffield United (3-0; he scored all three goals) in the FA Cup semifinal.
This demonstrates the player’s potential value in front of goal while playing, which is why we believe it would be a setback for City if he were to leave this summer.
Therefore, we believe that Mahrez should continue his adventure with Pep Guardiola’s team and keep battling to ensure that he is the one in the starting XI for the most important matches, even though he may have a sizable cash offer from Al-Ahli.
