Mateo Kovacic has identified the Manchester City player who, in his opinion, has the potential to be one of the continent’s top prospects in ten years.
The midfielder, who cost Chelsea £30 million, has recently joined the team, but he has already made a significant allegation about one of his new teammates at the Etihad Stadium.
Kovacic names City star as the best player going forward
When asked which members of the City squad have the potential to rule the football world in the near future, Kovacic responded in a statement to the club’s media.
He declared: “I believe Phil Foden is likely the player who can dominate and who [has] already won so much throughout his little career, demonstrating in every match that he is on a high level and a massive, huge potential.
“I think he’s a terrific player, and it was great to witness his mobility and skill in this game [the Champions League final] when he came on. I see a player in Foden who is perhaps quite reminiscent of David Silva.
The 23-year-old has made 217 appearances for City in all competitions since making his senior debut for the team back in November 2017, totaling 60 goals and 41 assists while earning various awards, including five Premier League championships.
Erling Haaland, who recently finished his debut season at the club by scoring 52 goals in 53 appearances, was not mentioned by the newest City recruit as a player who may be a major force in world football for the next ten years.
This, in our opinion, demonstrates how impressed Kovacic has been by Foden ever since he established himself as a mainstay in Pep Guardiola’s squad, especially given that he also likened him to Silva.
It will be intriguing to see how the two players complement one another for the treble-winners in the upcoming season and whether they can establish a dynamic relationship on the pitch that can lead to frequent goals and assists.
