This summer, Barcelona manager Xavi has made it obvious that finding a replacement for captain Sergio Busquets is his main priority.
However, it’s proving to be a very challenging assignment, not the least of which is the Catalans’ requirement to sell players before adding to their roster.
Diario Sport claims that Xavi is already considering his options if a successor is not found this summer.
The Barcelona manager has already tried deploying Eric Garcia in the pivot position, and it’s possible that he’ll do it again soon.
According to statements the Barcelona manager made earlier this season about Andreas Christensen, Xavi has supposedly already let it be known that the Danish player might be able to play in midfield.
“He is among the best signings we have made recently and this season. He is a remarkable defender. And given how he filters balls and recognises the free man, the way we play, he might be a midfielder who plays at the back.
Christensen’s name also seems to have come up as a result of Inigo Martinez’s impending free transfer from Athletic to Barcelona.
After the defender’s arrival, Xavi would have a wide range of center-back choices at Barcelona, as Inigo would join Ronald Araujo, Christensen, Eric Garcia, and Jules Kounde.
That might allow Christensen to go into midfield, something he has done in the past several years of his career but not recently.
