Zion Suzuki is perhaps not a name that many Old Trafford fans are familiar with.
Suzuki is emerging as a possibility for Erik ten Hag’s team, but the fact that Manchester United’s most unexpected target of the summer window models his game after that of Ederson Moraes should go some way towards explaining why.
Suzuki stated in words obtained by the Japanese publication Sponichi that his goal is to assist in setting up a goal with the type of raking pass that Ederson made famous while playing for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
The 20-year-old stated, “I want to make a play that is directly related to scoring.
Suzuki obviously considers himself to be more than just a custodian. The Inter Milan star who has emerged as Ten Hag’s main priority to replace the departing David de Gea is Andre Onana. Like Onana, the young Japanese international is equally at ease leading attacks as he is stopping them.
Zion Suzuki talks with Manchester United
Suzuki, a custodian of American descent, has great potential because to his possession assurance, aerial presence, and sturdy 6ft 3in build.
Therefore, it makes sense that he would soon surpass all previous records for the most costly export from Japan’s top division.
Manchester United’s ‘officially offered’ $5 million is £500,000 more than what Celtic paid to get Kyogo Furuhashi from Vissel Kobe back in 2021.
According to Sponichi, negotiations between United and Urawa Red Diamonds are progressing as expected, and a deal is now “imminent.”
However, Suzuki might need to exercise patience as he waits for a chance to work with Ten Hag. And not just because Onana, should he arrive from Inter Milan, will probably already have Old Trafford’s number one shirt secured.
As Brighton and Hove Albion did when they signed fellow countryman Kaoru Mitoma from Kawasaki Frontale two years ago, Man United may have to loan Suzuki out as he waits to get the necessary work permit.
The 2021–2022 season saw Mitoma on loan to Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.
