Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood won’t play in the Premier League again, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor. The England international had charges dropped against him back in February. He’s now free to resume his career, but the Red Devils are yet to decide whether to keep, loan or sell the kid this summer.
Greenwood has been unavailable for United ever since January 2022.
But he’s been photographed training and getting into shape in recent weeks, with the England international aiming to restart his career.
There’s currently talk of Greenwood departing on loan, with Atalanta and Juventus named as prospective suitors.
And Agbonlahor, speaking to talkSPORT, has stated he can’t see the 21-year-old playing in the Premier League again – while also expressing a belief United will look for £80million to let him go.
“I don’t think he will play in the Premier League again,” he remarked.
“I think his reputation is damaged at Manchester United and England, I do think he will play on again in a different country, a different league.
If the clubs decide to sign Mason Greenwood, it is up to them, their managers, and their owners.
“But I do feel living in England, being at football games, seeing what fans are like at games, I can’t see him going out there and playing for Manchester United again.”
He continued: “I think for the owners as well, he’s an asset, he’s probably an £80million asset.
“A very good player, talented, 21, what are they saying about it? Do they want to sell their asset?
“It’s definitely something difficult to talk about, but for me, I can’t see in the next couple of years, him playing in the Premier League, I just can’t see it.”
Agbonlahor believes that the abuse that Greenwood would endure would be too much for the child to handle.
“You can just see the reaction, can’t you?” He went on.
“Let’s say Manchester United is travelling to face Crystal Palace; you can imagine the response he’ll receive the entire match.
“Even warming up as a sub, you come on, it’s just going to be focused on him, it’s going to be like non-stop every fan giving him abuse.
So is it the wise decision for him to take him on loan to a different league to get his chance?
“But as far as the Premier League, I can’t see it, I really can’t.
“I know what it’s like to go to games recently. Football fans in England aren’t forgiving.”
Greenwood has kept a low profile since charges were dropped in February.
However, a source close to the player recently told The Sun he was keen on a resolution to his future.
“He firmly believes he is an innocent man and is very frustrated he’s not been able to play,” said the insider.
“He understands that the club have had to investigate, but he feels like his career is slipping by.
“He and his team have told United that they would like to know what is happening.
“They have basically said, ‘sack him or back him’.
“If they want to reintegrate him, do so. If they want to sell him, tell him.
“And if they want to loan him out, tell them so his team can find the appropriate club for him.”
