According to sources cited by Football Insider, Riyad Mahrez of Man City is taking a flight to Dubai to see Al-Alhi for a medical checkup.
After reaching a personal agreement with the club, the 32-year-old winger is poised to become the latest Premier League player to join Saudi Arabia’s football project.
On Sunday, July 16, Football Insider reported that Mahrez and Al-Alhi’s negotiations are far along.
It is believed that the Jeddah-based club has extended an incredible contract offer to the Algerian winger for £43 million per season plus bonuses.
Mahrez is anticipated to agree to a two-year contract with the team, with an option to make it three years.
Mahrez began his professional career with Quimper and Le Havre of France before moving to England to sign with Leicester City for just £450,000 in 2014.
He impressively contributed to the Foxes’ Premier League championship in 2015–16, winning the PFA Players’ and Fans’ Player of the Year honors that year.
Mahrez became the most expensive African footballer of all time when Man City paid £60 million to acquire him in 2018, following his 179 professional appearances and 48 goals for Leicester.
Mahrez has made 236 appearances over the course of his five years in Manchester, totaling 78 goals and 58 assists.
He has assisted Pep Guardiola’s team in winning the Champions League, three League Cups, two FA Cups, and four Premier League championships.
Mahrez has excelled for Algeria on the international scene as well, scoring 30 goals in 83 appearances and leading his country to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations victory.
