TEAMtalk claims that Arsenal is vying with Chelsea and West Ham United for the services of Montpellier’s Elye Wahi during the summer transfer window.
Wahi is reportedly attracting interest from Fulham as well.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea has been putting a lot of effort into finding a solution for the 20-year-old attacker.
Arsenal have reportedly “expressed their interest in signing the France U21 international,” the article continued.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, “wants Wahi to join” his team and support the club’s quest for the Premier League championship.
Because of Gabriel Jesus’ current injury and impending absence until the start of the new season, the Gunners are apparently interested in Wahi.
West Ham United and Fulham have also inquired about Wahi, according to TEAMtalk, who also noted that Montpellier wants £34.5 million in transfer fees in exchange for him.
Last season, Wahi played for Montpellier in Ligue 1 with 29 starts and four substitute appearances.
In those contests, the striker notched 19 goals and five assists.
Arsenal shouldn’t move quickly on the Elye Wahi deal.
We believe that Arsenal shouldn’t move quickly to sign Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.
Wahi is a very capable striker, but the Gunners should take their time when considering signing a young youngster.
After all, Wahi would find it difficult to make the first team when Jesus returns.
Is it necessary for Arsenal to pay £34.5 million for a 20-year-old striker for a short period of time?
In addition, the Gunners have two other senior strikers on their roster in addition to Jesus.
In Jesus’ absence, Eddie Nketiah might fill in for Arsenal, and Folarin Balogun scored goals in France last season much to Wahi did.
Why can’t Arteta simply employ the striker from the USA during Jesus’ absence?
While on loan at Reims past season, Balogun made 34 starts and three substitute appearances in Ligue 1.
In those games, the 22-year-old striker scored 21 goals and provided two assists.
