A shocking Turkish report claims that Fenerbahçe is now a contender to recruit Jorginho from Arsenal.
The 31-year-old was acquired from Chelsea in January by the Gunners, who gave him a contract through 2024 with a one-year option to extend it. In 16 games for the North London club, he played for fewer than 1000 minutes.
TRT Spor reports that the midfielder has informed Arsenal that he wants to leave the Emirates despite playing frequently this season.
The Brazilian-born Italy international has been made available for signing by the Yellow Canaries, who are now searching for a new midfielder.
Fenerbahçe allegedly “wants to add” the former Napoli player to their roster and has gotten in touch with Mikel Arteta’s camp to inquire about the terms of his signing.
The player’s wish to leave the club as well as Arsenal’s response to the Turkish club’s approach are not mentioned on the website.
The Turkish or English press have not yet confirmed TRT Spor’s report. It will be interesting to see if this is rejected by the Premier League team’s local media.
Declan Rice has joined the Arsenal team, and Granit Xhaka has been sold. The Emirates’ current defensive midfielders are Rice, Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Mohamed Elneny.
