While a filmmaker was filming Mason Greenwood training for Manchester United, his group allegedly threatened him.
Charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior against the 21-year-old were dropped against him in February. United has not yet disclosed the results of its internal inquiry into him, thus he is still on administrative leave.
Since his original arrest in January 2022, Greenwood has not trained at the club’s Carrington facilities. However, he was spotted working out by himself and with his former teammate Anthony Elanga last month.
Tuesday’s new video shows the winger engaging in different shooting drills with personal trainers under the guidance of his father Andrew.
However, according to John Gubba, who operates the Man Utd The Religion YouTube channel, Greenwood’s group objected to him recording the workout.
In the disputed footage, Greenwood can be seen rehearsing his shot in a location that director Gubba claims was “publicly accessible” and “away from Manchester United.”
If witnesses didn’t surround you, we would tear that camera out of your hand and destroy your equipment, a member of Greenwood’s entourage allegedly warned Gubba, according to Gubba.
The filmmaker also said the former England international was “clearly far from peak condition”, though his trademark shooting technique was still evident.
Greenwood is hopeful he’ll be able to return to action with his boyhood club soon. It’s been claimed senior players in the men’s squad would support his reintegration.
During United’s preseason tour of the United States, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag remained circumspect when questioned about the circumstance. It’s a club choice, he said. Of course, I’ve expressed my thoughts and beliefs, but the club will decide. Everyone here must accept that.
The internal inquiry was finished last month, and the conclusion is anticipated to be made public before their opening Premier League match of the new campaign against Wolves on Monday, August 14.
