When asked if he would like to see Kieran Tierney return to the club, Brendan Rodgers steadfastly declined to enter the rumors around him and insisted he had nothing to say to them.
The Scotland defender has failed to get playing time at the Emirates over the past year, and he is poised to depart Arsenal for the English Premier League in a £25 million transfer, four years after leaving Celtic. For Sunday’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City, he was even positioned behind right-footed center-back Jurrien Timber, and when he did make an appearance, Roy Keane chastised him for his contribution to Cole Palmer’s opening goal.
Real Sociedad may have tried to take him on a loan, but Celtic’s links with him remain strong, and he even expressed interest in returning to Celtic Park in the future. Prior to the start of the English Premier League, Newcastle has also been strongly connected with a transfer for him, although there hasn’t been any genuine activity.
But Rodgers refused to fuel any rumors about him, saying: “I don’t speak on what ifs. Numerous players are the subject of rumors; inevitably, Kieran and our shared background are mentioned. However, there is nothing to add to this.
