Midfielder Moises Caicedo of Brighton & Hove Albion has propelled himself to the front of the trade talk.
Romeo Lavia of Southampton had taken over the market after the Reds had three offers for the 19-year-old Belgian rejected. The most recent denial came before their final preseason match against SV Darmstadt after the Championship club rejected an offer worth up to £46 million.
Late on Wednesday, it was revealed that Chelsea had outbid Liverpool for the Lavia contract.
Then, on Thursday, Liverpool talked to the Seagulls about the Ecuadorian midfielder’s availability. In order to restore their engine room, Jurgen Klopp is aiming to add players to the midfield.
The fact that Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left for Saudi Arabia made their task harder.
Alexis Mac Allister, a midfielder from the AMEX Stadium, was one of the midfield acquisitions this summer. The World Cup winner was the first player to sign up for Liverpool before the forthcoming season after Liverpool triggered his release clause.
For Brighton, the 24-year-old Mac Allister was a standout during a historic season in which they made history by qualifying for Europe for the first time. Last season, Caicedo was his midfield partner on the south coast. Throughout their careers together, they appeared 47 times together.
Beginning in June, when Mac Allister made his debut for Liverpool, Caicedo was among the first to praise his departed teammate. With four heart-eye emojis, he said: “Come on pa [sic], very pleased for you.” God bless you, brother, and a hearty hug, he continued.
There has been a lot of talk about Caicedo’s future this summer. The midfielder has long been coveted by Chelsea, who reportedly had their own proposal rejected.
Could the Argentine help the South American man find his partner again?
That is still up in the air. However, it has previously been asserted that he has fueled rumors of a transfer to Liverpool. The much sought-after midfielder appeared to like a tweet that said, “Liverpool awaits you.”
On Sunday in the Premier League, the two teams vying to sign Caicedo square off against one another. It is unclear if the midfielder will play against Luton Town in Brighton’s season-opening match after he missed their last pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano.
When the Reds visit the Londoners, Caicedo may be keeping an eye on events at Stamford Bridge.
